Jean Hinzmann
I was inspired to become a teacher when I volunteered at a camp for special needs children. I was hired to work there and I returned every summer until I went to college. I graduated from Geneseo College in 1976 with a B.S. degree in Special Education and Elementary Education. I completed my Masters Degree in Special Education at New Paltz College in 1982. I was granted permanent certification by the state of New York in February 1983.

I was a Special Education teacher for the Wappingers Central School District for over 20 years. I was responsible for administering diagnostic testing, developing and implementing Individualized Educational Programs. I worked as a consultant, push in and Resource teacher through out my career. I relocated to the Finger Lakes in 2000. After a brief hiatus from public education I returned to teaching. I retired from the Geneva City School District in 2013.

My passion in life has always been to travel, learn and explore different cultures. I thought I would travel to all my "Bucket List" places. My list continued to grow and lucky for me there was always a long term substitute position in Geneva available. As a classroom teacher, I have shared my cultural experiences with the students. My passion for learning has included Wellness activities focused on developing meditation practice, positive self image and mindfulness. I am a perpetual student as well as a teacher, taking pride in inspiring children!
